« Le Petit Prince », pour ondes Martenot, flûte et trio à cordes, est à l’origine une musique de scène composée en 2008 à l’intention d’Alain Carré pour ses représentations du Petit Prince d’Antoine de Saint Exupéry, dont la première a été donnée en novembre de la même année au Théâtre du Crève-Coeur à Genève, Suisse.
Elément essentiel de ces représentations, la musique intervient à de nombreuses reprises, parfois seule, parfois sur le texte. Personnage à part entière, elle évoque, suggère, appuie ou commente les mots… Elle est tour à tour désert, astéroïde, fleur, monarque, allumeur de réverbères, serpent, renard, mais aussi tristesse, mélancolie, rêverie, silence…
En 2018, à la demande de la flûtiste Isabelle Gracia, Sophie Lacaze a remanié sa partition pour des représentations du Petit Prince avec la musique jouée en live. La création de ce spectacle qui convient autant au jeune public qu’aux adultes a été donnée en mars 2019 à Vannes par Gaëtan Emeraud (comédien), Isabelle Gracia (flûte), Anne Andlauer (violon), Béatrice Embree (alto), Virginie Bedrine (violoncelle) et Cécile Lartigau (ondes Martenot).

‘« The Little Prince », for Ondes Martenot, flute, and string trio, was originally stage music composed in 2008 for Alain Carré’s performances of Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Its premiere took place in November of the same year at the Théâtre du Crève-Coeur in Geneva, Switzerland.
An essential element of these performances, the music plays a prominent role, sometimes playing alone, sometimes accompanying the text. A character in its own right, it evokes, suggests, supports, or comments on the words… It becomes by turns a desert, an asteroid, a flower, a monarch, a lamplighter, a snake, a fox, and also sadness, melancholy, daydreams, silence…
In 2018, at the request of the flautist Isabelle Gracia, Sophie Lacaze reworked her score for performances of The Little Prince with the music played ‘live’. The show was first performed in March 2019 in Vannes by Gaëtan Emeraud (actor), Isabelle Gracia (flute), Anne Andlauer (violin), Béatrice Embree (viola), Virginie Bedrine (cello) and Cécile Lartigau (ondes Martenot).
