« La vita è bella ? » pour flûte et violoncelle a été écrite en 1995 à Sienne (Italie) pendant les études de Sophie Lacaze à l’Accademia Musicale Chigiana, et revue en 1997. La première version a été créée par Chiharu Tachibana et Ladislav Szathmary à Toulouse en 1996, la seconde par l’ensemble ProContemporania (Ian-Bogdan Stefanescu et Andrei Kivu) à l’occasion de la Semaine Internationale de Musique Nouvelle à Bucarest (Roumanie), avec une chorégraphie de Raluca Ianegic.
La pièce évoque le cycle de la vie, vie de l’artiste qui, enfermé dans une société cartésienne, ne peut trouver matière à vivre pleinement son potentiel créateur. Chacun des deux musiciens joue un rôle particulier : le flûtiste est l’artiste, le violoncelliste le monde…

« La vita è bella? » for flute and cello was written in 1995 in Siena (Italy) during Sophie Lacaze’s studies at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, and revised in 1997. The first version was premiered by Chiharu Tachibana and Ladislav Szathmary in Toulouse in 1996, the second by the ProContemporania ensemble (Ian-Bogdan Stefanescu and Andrei Kivu) for the International New Music Week in Bucharest (Romania), with choreography by Raluca Ianegic.
The piece evokes the cycle of life, the life of the artist who, trapped in a Cartesian society, cannot find the material to live out his creative potential to the full. Each of the two musicians plays a particular role: the flautist is the artist, the cellist the world…
